StumpVisionBatting Data Base

Batting Index (BTI) :

The Batting Index is the limited over batting average for the current players. The BTI for the players are given below.

BTI
Ganguly       43
Tendulkar     43
Dravid        34
Yuvraj Singh  30
Robin Singh   26
Kambli        40
Sriram
       25
Dahiya        15
Jadeja        35
Azharuddin    38

To summarize, the Batting Index is an indication of how many runs a batsman is expected to score off a standard bowling attack. The Batting Index ranges from 47 for Viv Richards to 5 for McGrath. (Bradman stands supreme at 70).

Quick Scoring Index (QSI) :

It is obvious that in limited over cricket, it is not sufficient to just score runs but score the runs quickly. We have developed a Quick Scoring Index for each batsman. It represents the average number of runs expected to be scored in 6 balls by the batsman over his entire career. The QSI for the players are given below.

Ganguly      4.0
Tendulkar    5.2
Dravid       3.5
Yuvraj Singh 4.5
Robin Singh  4.5
Kambli       4.0
Sriram       3.7
Dahiya       3.0
Jadeja       4.5
Azharuddin   4.5

(Only Jessop, who played in the early 1900s and is acknowledged by almost everyone as the greatest attacking batsman of all time, has a QSI of 6.0. Amongst contemporary batsmen, only Jayasuriya has the skills to come to this level. Richards finished his career with an amazing strike rate of 5.5 rpo.).

StumpVisionBowling Data Base

Bowling Index (BWI) :

The Bowling Index is an indication of the wicket-taking ability of the bowlers. This, in conjunction with the Batting Index is used to determine the base out percentage.

The actual limited overs strike rate is used as the basis. For this purpose, the strike rate is defined as the wickets per six-ball over. This is an excellent indication of the penetrating ability of the bowler.

The strike rate rather than the wickets per match is used as the basis. This will ensure an equitable determination of the bowler index for the "fifth bowlers" such as Tendulkar, Mark Waugh, Simmons etc. who normally do not complete their full quota of overs. This will also ensure the correct determination of the bowling index for an all-rounder such as Imran Khan or Ajay Jadeja who has played in a number of matches purely as a batsman.

The final bowling index used is 10 x strike rate since a 50-over match has been used as the datum. This figure varies from 1.68 for Waqar Younis to 0.1 for the non-bowlers. Extensive tests were conducted and over 300 matches were played to prove the validity of the data.

The BWI for the players are given below.

Kumble      1.40
Agarkar     1.50
Prasad      1.40
Zaheer Khan 0.90
Joshi       0.95
Badani      0.40
Srinath     1.50
Mohanti     0.90
Kumaran     0.95
Chopra      0.90

Even for players who have never bowled a single ball in their lives, the BWI is given as 0.1 to take care of the slim theoretical possibility of a wicket falling to any legal delivery.

Runs Per Over (RPO) :

Just as the QSI further defines a batsman's ability to score runs quickly, it is necessary to have as part of the data base the run restricting ability of the bowler. This is defined by the term RPO.

For the players their actual limited overs RPO has been taken. The best bowler in this regard is Ambrose with an RPO of 3.52. Nadkarni, is one of the few who have the lowest RPO of 3.0.

The base run percentage is derived based on the QSI and RPO figures.
